Acclaim for his role in Young Frankenstein

Ross Noble is up for an accolade at the biggest awards ceremony in British theatre.

The comic has been nominated for an Olivier Award for his portrayal of Igor in the Mel Brooks musical Young Frankenstein.

He is up for best supporting actor in a musical – the only performer in that category not to be part of the Hamilton cast.

It comes days after he won the same category in the What’s On Stage awards for the role, so memorably played by Marty Feldman in the 1974 movie.

Young Frankenstein itself is up for the Olivier for best new musical alongside An American In Paris, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie,  Girl From The North Country and Hamilton.

And Noble’s co-star, Birds Of A Feather actress Lesley Joseph is up for  best supporting actress in a musical, against Shiela Atim from Girl From The North Country, Tracie Bennett from Follies and Rachel John from Hamilton,

The Hamilton actors Noble has been shortlisted against are Michael Jibson,  Jason Pennycooke and Cleve September.

Vying for best new comedy are Dry Powder, Labour Of Love, Mischief Movie Night and The Miser.

And the adaptation of David Walliam’s Gangsta Granny is up for best entertainment or family show alongside the London Palladium’s Dick Whittington panto, Derren Brown’s Underground and Five Guys Named Mo.

Catherine Tate will host this year's awards at the Royal Albert Hall in London on  April 8.
