New sitcom from Two Doors Down creator

Simon Carlyle writing The Taylors for Radio Two

The creator of hit BBC Two comedy Two Doors Down is working on a new family sitcom.

Simon Carlyle’s new show, The Taylors, revolves around a fun-loving nouveau riche couple, Gary and Melissa, and their noisy family who've recently relocated to a middle-class street in Watford.

The show is in development for BBC Radio Two with producers Hat Trick, who make Derry Girls, Have I Got News For You and Episodes.

They say Gary is a child of the 1980s and 1990s who ‘loves a pint, loves a sunbed, loves the birds’ – but loves his wife despite being a  natural flirt. And they find that as they move up in the world, ‘there's a marked difference between Gary and Melissa and their new neighbours…’

Casting news has not yet been revealed, but a run-through will be performed at the Backyard Comedy Club in London later this month. Free audience tickets are available here.

Carlyle’s other credits include Boy Meets Girl and Benidorm.
