Red Dwarf XIII 'absolutely' happening
Red Dwarf will ‘absolutely’ return for a new series, its writer Doug Naylor has said, adding: ’We’re just trying to work out how and when.’
In an interview to mark the comedy’s 30th birthday, co-creator Naylor said: ‘Everyone seems to be keen so I think that will happen.’
He also revived the prospect of a Red Dwarf stage show, saying: ‘Again, I’m not sure when, but I’m confident that will happen too.’
Naylor’s previously said that broadcaster Dave wants more, while Robert Llewellyn, who plays Kryten has said: ‘We're all up for doing more.’
And in an extra boost the press office of Dave’s parent company UKTV retweeted a report of Naylor’s interview with What Culture – suggesting an official announcement of Series 13 is on the way.
When asked: ‘Will you do another season for Dave?’, Naylor replied: ‘Yeah, absolutely.’
He also suggested co-creator Rob Grant, who left the show after series six, ‘may well want to return to Red Dwarf in some capacity down the line’, adding: ‘He's never mentioned the latest stuff and I've never asked him what he thinks of it. But if offered his opinion I'd happily listen.’
He also said that the long-rumoured Red Dwarf movie is still on the back burner, but has not been ruled out.’
‘The order will probably be another TV series, a stage show and possibly a movie, and I think the guys agree on that,’ he said.
‘The film is a long shot at this point just because it can take so long to get funding. While people are happy for us to make TV series and stage shows, and the money is there for us to do it, obviously we’ll do those things since they’re guaranteed. I haven’t discussed the idea of a movie with the guys for a while.’
