American remake for Julia Davis's Camping

With Girls creators Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner

Julia Davis’s Sky comedy series Camping is being remade for America.

Alias star Jennifer Garner is to appear in the remake, which is being written by Girls creators Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner.

The HBO cable network have commissioned eight episodes – two more than initially ran on Sky Atlantic in 2016.

Garner will play Kathryn, the obsessive, controlling wife who organises a camping trip for her husband Walt’s 45th birthday.

Vicki Pepperdine played the equivalent role in the original, Fiona, with Steve Pemberton as her husband, Robin. The Americans have also shaved five years off Robin’s age as he was 50 in the UK version.

Konner and Dunham told Hollywood trade bible Variety: ‘We love Jennifer’s restraint and comedic timing, and we can’t wait for the warmth and intelligence she’ll bring to our central character, Kathryn. It’s truly a dream to have her first on our call sheet. Now we just have to write her some stunts.’

This is the first project from the pair since Girls ended last year. The comedy, which also aired on HBO, was nominated for 19 Primetime Emmys over its six seasons

Davis will be acting as one of the executive producers on the HBO version. More casting is yet to be announced.
