Russell Brand becomes a hitman

In new action-comedy movie

Russell Brand is to play a hitman in a new movie

He takes the lead role in Butterfingers, which is described as ‘a high-concept crime comedy turning on a jaded hitman who is forced to drive a teenage boy and his nine-year-old sister across Europe on a mission to settle a score with a rival’.

It is scripted by British writer Tom Nash  and directed by Barnaby Southcombe. who cut his teeth on TV shows such as Teachers and Waterloo Road before making his big-screen debut with I, Anna – starring his mother Charlotte Rampling – in 2012.

Brand’s last movie appearance was as God in Larry Charles’s 2016 satire Army Of One, while his other cinema credits include the 2011 remake of Arthur and Get Him To The Greek in 2010.

Mark Lane from producers The Fyzz Facility said: ‘Tom has written a brilliantly funny script that finds a new fan with every read. We could not be more excited to be working with Russell and Barnaby to bring Butterfingers alive.’

The film is to be touted to potential buyers at the European Film Market in Berlin next week – and production is due to start in July, the Hollywood trade press reports.
