Magic Dragon to appear on quiz show

Dragons are traditionally slain by heroes – not general knowledge questions.

But Piff The Magic Dragon is to face this new foe when he takes part in the US version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? next week.

The British comedy magician, who swept to international fame through his memorable appearances on America’s Got Talent, is to compete  in a week of celebrity shows.

Winnings from his appearance will go to Feeding America, which runs a nationwide network of food banks, and this image shows he climbed to at least $10,000 – although it came at at the cost of two lifelines.

Questions are asked by Chris Harrison, the former host of The Bachelor, and the show is syndicated across ABC-owned local TV stations across America, where it airs in an afternoon slot.

Piff – real name John van der Put – currently lives in Las Vegas, where he has a nightly show at The Flamingo.

He has also just shot his first TV special, which will be touted around potential broadcasters.

Penn Jillette made a guest appearance as Pop The Magic Dragon and James Randi, the 89-year-old sceptic and former magician, was coaxed out of retirement to make a cameo.
