Veep's Julia Louis-Dreyfus: I have cancer
Veep star Julia Louis-Dreyfus has announced she has breast cancer,
In a message posted on social media, she wrote: ‘1 in 8 women get breast cancer. Today I'm the one.’
‘The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive and caring family and friends, and fantastic insurance through my union.
‘The bad news is that not all women are so lucky, so let's fight all cancers and make universal healthcare a reality.
It has been reported that the 56-year-old received her diagnosis after picking up a record-breaking sixth Emmy for her role as Selina Meyer in the HBO comedy.
The former Seinfeld star has been overwhelmed with messages of supporting since making her announcement from fans, co-stars and a real-life former vice-president.
Joe Biden, who lost his son Beau to cancer in 2015, tweeted: ‘We Veeps stick together. Jill and I, and all of the Bidens, are with you, Julia.’
Lena Dunham tweeted: ‘I love @OfficialJLD, one of the strongest people I know and cancer is gonna be real sorry it tried any weird moves on her.
HBO issued a statement, saying: ‘We have every confidence she will get through this with her usual tenacity and undaunted spirit, and look forward to her return to health and to HBO for the final season of Veep.’
