Armando Iannucci's new comedy – set in space

HBO greenlights Avenue 5

Armando Iannucci is to make a new comedy series – set in space.

Avenue 5 – which is still a working title - is a departure from political satires such as The Thick Of It, Veep and the forthcoming movie The Death Of Stalin that made Iannucci’s name.

Hollywood trade website Deadline reports that the show, rumoured to be set on a spaceship, has been greenlit by America’s HBO network.

It is due to be filmed in London from next year. Iannucci stepped down from Veep in 2015 to spend more time with his family in the UK.

Sky Atlantic is the exclusive home of HBO shows in the UK, so will most likely air Avenue 5, too.

Veep, which also airs on HBO,  will end after its upcoming seventh series.
