Meghan Markle's ex in comedy cash-in
Meghan Markle’s ex-husband is working on a new comedy – about a divorced man whose wife goes on to marry a British Prince.
Trevor Engelson had no kids with Suits star Markle, now Prince Harry’s girlfriend, so at least that part of the story is fictional.
But the other elements of the as-yet untitled project are likely to fuel tabloid stories on both sides of the Atlantic.
Englelson – a producer whose credits include the TV series Heathers – has joined forces with Modern Family executive Danny Zuker to develop the show.
Now the Fox network has made a so-called ‘put pilot commitment’ to the comedy – which means the broadcaster will have to pay a substantial financial penalty if the trial episode doesn’t air.
British comedy director Christine Gernon – whose credits include Gavin & Stacey, Hebburn and The Kennedys – is helming the show.
Hollywood website Deadline reports that Engelson came up with the idea during a conversation with fellow producer Dan Farah, when he wondered what would have happened if he and Markle had children that he would have to share with the Royal Family.
The pair wed in Jamaica in September 2011, after seven years together, but split in a no-fault divorce in 2013.
