Alan Partridge to straddle the BBC
Alan Partridge will be back on both BBC One and BBC Two, the Corporation has confirmed.
Steve Coogan announced in June that his most famous creation would be returning to the BBC after 15 years away.
Now the broadcaster’s comedy chief, Shane Allen, has revealed the details. He said: ‘Alan Partridge is in the top tier of comedy characters of all time, it fills my comedy heart with joy to welcome him back to BBC One and BBC Two.’
BBC Two will broadcast an hour-long 25th anniversary special before the end of the year marking a quarter-century since Partridge’s radio show Knowing Me, Knowing You launched on Radio 4in 1992 …. although the character debuted on On The Hour the previous year.
A BBC One series will then air next year.
Coogan has previously suggested Partridge's return would be a 'magazine show’, telling The One Show in June: 'we might do little shots of things where there's a couple on the sofa … I might borrow your lime green sofa.’
The new shows will be produced by Coogan’s company Baby Cow Productions.
