Accolade for his So Anyway... memoirs

The audiobook of John Cleese’s memoirs has won a major international radio prize.

His reading of So Anyway… won a gold award at the International Radio Program Awards in New York.

The book was initially released in 2014, but the unabridged audiobook only came out in November last year. Radio 4 has just finished airing a comedy show based on the recordings, John Cleese Presents .

Ireland’s RTE was the big winner at the awards, scooping ‘broadcaster of the year’ as part of its haul of 40 accolades.

In other categories, Radio 4's Thanks A Lot Milton Jones! won a silver award for best regularly scheduled comedy program.

And the British Forces Broadcasting Service picked up a bronze award in the radio category for Who Dares Grins, a compilation of sketches from sketch series Damn The Torpedoes, which features the voices of Alex Lowe, Debbie Arnold, Lewis Macleod and others.

The International Radio Program Awards attracted entries from 32 nations.
