Patton Oswalt to headline Galway comedy fest

Rare Irish date for US star

Patton Oswalt is to make a rare Irish appearance, headlining this year’s Galway comedy festival.

Organisers of the Vodafone Comedy Carnival say it is a ‘massive coup’ to land the American comic who voiced of Remy in Ratatouille and appeared in movies such as Zoolander and Starsky and Hutch, as well has his long-running role on TV sitcom The King of Queens.

Oswalt also won this year’s Grammy award for best  comedy album for the recording of his stand-up special Talking for Clapping

Festival organiser Kevin Healy said: ‘I’ve been talking to him for about six years and finally it’s paid off.’

Also announced in the first wave of acts for the festival are Jon Richardson, performing his new Old Man tour; Katy Brand with her show I Was A Teenage Christian; Al Porter, who will be performing with a full band; radio stars Dermot & Dave and Reginald D Hunter.

The Vodafone Comedy Carnival runs from October 24 to 30, with Oswalt’s dates at the Black Box Theatre on Friday and Saturday night. For more details visit the website.
