Black Mirror to become a series of books
Black Mirror is to become a series of books.
Charlie Brooker will edit three anthologies of satirical short stories that share the ‘essence’ of the TV show.
The first is set to be published in February, the second in autumn 2018 and the third in 2019. Each of three volumes will comprise three novellas.
The tales will all be new, not be based on the stories told in the Channel 4 and Netflix series, and penned by a number of authors who have not yet been named.
Brooker tweeted today: ‘We're pleased to announce Black Mirror will soon be available in high-tech 'paper' format.’
Publishers Del Rey – an imprint of Penguin Random House – call it ‘an exciting collaboration between Charlie Brooker and leading fiction writers’.
They say ‘This book takes the very essence of the globally-acclaimed cult TV show to create new, original, darkly satirical stories that tap into our collective unease about the modern world.
‘This is Black Mirror in book form - allowed to roam through the imaginations of some of the leading names in contemporary fiction. This collection will challenge you to see the world in a different - and more disturbing - light. You have been warned…’
In a statement, Brooker said: ‘All-new 'Black Mirror' stories from exciting authors - that’s a joyous prospect. And they’re appearing in a high-tech new format known as a "book".
‘Apparently you just have to glance at some sort of ‘ink code’ printed on paper and images and sounds magically appear in your head, enacting the story. Sounds far-fetched to me, but we’ll see."
Publisher Lingwood added: ‘Black Mirror is the smartest, sharpest show on TV and as huge fans ourselves we know that we are always desperate for more episodes. In fact, more than we suspect it will ever be possible for Charlie to make.
‘That’s why we’re so inspired by Charlie’s total enthusiasm for this project and we’re completely salivating at the prospect of him working with some of the smartest, sharpest novelists around in order to create more Black Mirror – but this time in book form.’
The fourth season of Black Mirror is expected to be release on Netflix later this year. Magician Penn Jillette has revealed he has contribute one story to the series.
The first anthology will be published in February, priced £12.99. Click here to pre-order
