Russia bans The Simpsons over Pokemon Go skit

Homer seen playing it in church

An episode of The Simpsons has been banned in Russia because it shows Homer playing Pokemon Go in Church.

Christian leaders complained that the scene, which also jokes about declining religious belief, was offensive.

It follows the case of atheist blogger Ruslan Sokolovsky, who faces three-and-a-half years’ imprisonment after playing Pokemon Go in Yekaterinburg cathedral, ‘offending religious sensibilities.

During the Simpsons episode, Looking for Mr Goodbart, Homer walks into a service playing 'Peekimon Get' with  Comic Book Guy.

When the pair are told to stop, Comic Book Guy replies: Look, this game is - or at least was - bigger than Jesus'.

The Reverend Lovejoy then muses: 'Hmm. It's a pretty low bar these days’.

Clerics from the Russian Orthodox Church contacted cartoon channel 2x2 to complain about the episode, which was then withdrawn, according to the news agency RBC.
