Millican and Manford stand up for refugees
The best of the week's live comedy...
Monday March 20
LIVE IN GLASGOW: Kevin Bridges plays his only hometown gig of the city's ongoing comedy festival when he headlines Stand Up Against MND (motor neurone disease) at the King's Theatre. And there's substantial support, too, courtesy of Des Clarke, Fred MacAulay, Susie McCabe, Scott Agnew and more…
LIVE IN LONDON: Josie Long brings her hope-in-the-face-of-Brexit standup-show Something Better to the West End, with a one-off in the Duchess Theatre. Tickets
LIVE IN LONDON: The Leicester Square Theatre hosts the final of its Sketch Off talent hunt with competitors Barry & Sian, Crizards, Giants, Hurt & Anderson, Jasper La-Plage, LoveHard, Muriel and Tothill & Wakefield
Tuesday March 21
LIVE IN MANCHESTER: A strong bill at the city's much-loved club for connoisseurs, XS Malarkey, is headlined by manic Felicity Ward with the almost-as-intense Matt Winning among the supporting line-up.
Wednesday March 22
LIVE IN LONDON: Theatre Peckham hosts a benefit for - well, itself – featuring soon-to-be-US TV star Brett Goldstein, deputy Monarch Of The Celebrity Jungle, Joel Dommett, laid-back social commentator Dane Baptiste and skilled compere Tom Webb
Thursday March 23
LIVE IN LONDON: The heats of our Student Comedy Award come to a close in Goldsmiths, hosted by Chortle best compere nominee Laura Lexx. We've a great track record of finding future stars, even if we do say so ourselves, so come see what the capital has in store. Tickets
LIVE IN LONDON: The Bill Murray in Islington hosts a strong bill in aid of Performers Without Borders, which teaches performing arts to vulnerable children in countries of high child poverty. The wry poetry of Gap Year star Tim Key leads a line-up that includes character ace Lolly Adefope, politico Nish Kumar, dry observationist Phil Wang, and the absurd John Kearns, somehow acting as compere despite his oddness.
Friday March 24
LIVE IN SALFORD: Sarah Millican and Jason Manford are the big draws for the Stand Up For Refugees gig at the Lowry Centre, but there's a useful back-up bill, too, including Kerry Godliman, who's about to become a very familiar face in Jack Dee's ITV sitcom Bad Move.
LIVE IN CARDIFF: Filthy self-deprecating tales galore from the hilarious Mike Wilmot, headlining the Glee tonight and tomorrow, when the bill also includes silly and frenetic Adam Hess.
LIVE IN BRIGHTON: It's a strong weekend at Komedia's Krater Comedy Club, thanks to accomplished circuit stalwarts Carey Marx and Jo Caulfield, plus resident compere Stephen Grant.
LIVE IN SOUTHSEA: Erudite Tom Allen and the social rage of Alfie Brown combine for a compelling night at the Wedgewood Rooms.
Saturday March 25
LIVE IN GLASGOW: As the city's comedy festival draws to an end, Edinburgh Fringe best newcomer Scott Gibson brings his very funny personal tale of suffering a brain haemorrhage, Life After Death, to St Luke's.
