Harold Lloyd films to become animations

New deal with pioneering comedian's estate

Harold Lloyd’s comedy films are to be made into a series of animated features.

The comedian’s estate has signed a deal with London-based Cinesite Studios and Comic Animations to adapt some of the nearly 200 stunt-filled films he made over his career.

Cinesite, which also has offices in Canada, has provided visual effects for the likes of Assassin’s Creed, X-Men: Apocalypse and Spectre.

Dave Rosenbaum, Cinesite’s chief creative officer,  said: ‘Today’s films and filmmakers stand on the shoulders of Harold Lloyd with his innovations and unparalleled sense of story, camera and comedy.

Suzanne Lloyd, Harold Lloyd’s granddaughter and the owner of his film library, added: ‘By donning unassuming glasses, Harold Lloyd became the boy next door everyone could relate to and he shot to stardom to enchant and entertain generations of film fans. I appreciate the opportunity… to bring Harold’s comedy genius to the world in a new and innovative way. We need laughter now more than ever.;

It has not yet been announced which of his films are in line for the animated treatment.
