2017 Student Comedy Award opens!
Entries have opened for this year's Chortle Student Comedy Award.
Now in its 14th year, previous winners have included Joe Lycett, Adam Hess, Lloyd Langford and Jamali Maddix, while Simon Bird, Chris Ramsey, Iain Stirling, Tom Rosenthal and Richard Gadd are among our illustrious former finalists.
Last year's winner, Tom Gidman, said: 'Entering the Chortle Student Awards was a fantastic experience. It's a great opportunity to really challenge yourself to hone your craft and produce something unique, and to perform at some amazing venues too, with a bunch of really talented comics. I would highly recommend giving it a go to any aspiring comedian out there.'
Eleven heats will take place across the UK in February and March, with semi-finals in London in May and the final at Pleasance One at the Edinburgh Fringe in August. The winner receives £1,000 – as well as the kudos of the title – and the runner-up, £250.
All finalists are also given the opportunity to play the Comedy Arena at the Latitude Festival on the weekend of July 13 to 16, and get to be seen by industry figures along the way.
Entry is open to students aged over 18 with five to seven minutes of their own original material. Read the full terms and conditions here, and entries close at midnight next Sunday.

The entry form
We will see everyone who enters perform live, although newer acts may be asked to perform at auditions before oversubscribed heats. Newcomers in and around London would be especially advised to select the (less-stressful!) London audition as their first preference.
Please note you can only include Brunel OR Goldsmiths among your three choices, not both.
