Britain's best Mum...
Mum has been named best comedy at the Broadcast Awards.
The BBC Two show – starring Lesley Manville and written by Stefan Golaszewski – won out above fellow nominees Catastrophe, Camping, Fleabag, Murder In Successville and Chewing Gum.
Judges praised the comedy’s bittersweet tenderness and the ‘utterly beautiful and honest performances’ of the cast.
Meanwhile, Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s much-garlanded Fleabag was named best original programme.
It was praised as a ‘shining example of how to open up a theatrical piece for TV’ with acclaim for ‘career-best performances’ from the supporting cast of Olivia Colman, Bill Paterson and Hugh Dennis
One of the judges said of Waller-Bridge: ‘A fresh new talent with a unique voice has exploded onto our screens.’
The Last Leg with Adam Hills, Alex Brooker and Josh Widdicombe, was named best entertainment show, with praise for how it had been at the heart of Channel 4’s Rio Paralympics coverage.
