Career Suicide currently playing in London

Chris Gethard’s stand-up show Career Suicide is to become an HBO special.

The comic is currently performing the show –  which explores depression, alcoholism and suicide – at London’s Soho Theatre following its success at the Edinburgh Fringe last year.

Now Judd Apatow is to executive produce a version of the show for America’s premium cable network.

The Hollywood star said: ‘I’m so excited that the entire world will be able to see Chris’ one-man show. And then, whenever he walks into a room, people will look at him funny.’

Nina Rosenstein, HBO’s executive vice-president of programming, added: ‘Chris Gethard is a fearless storyteller, and Career Suicide is exactly the kind of raw, relevant and hilarious comedy we are thrilled to share with our audience.’

The show will be taped at the at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center in New York next week and aired in May.
