Awards for Spencer Jones, Successville and Chewing Gum

Spencer Jones, Murder In Successville and Chewing Gum have all scooped accolades at the Broadcast Digital Awards.

Jones won best online scripted short for the Christmas film he made for Sky, while Murder In Successville was named best entertainment programme and Chewing Gum best scripted programme.

The awards were handed out at The Brewery in London last night by industry magazine Broadcast for programmes which aired on digital channels.

Shot in two days, judges described Jones's farce – in which he has to salvage Christmas Day celebrations from items found in a pound store – as ‘utterly hilarious and brilliantly executed’.

Meanwhile, BBC Three's Improvised Murder In Successville was hailed a 'fantastically innovative comedy' based around 'a sterling performance' from Tom Davis.

Judges said: 'This show was a riot and each week’s celebrity sidekick would invariably break down laughing. That sense of fun was contagious and passed on seamlessly to the viewers'.

One of the panel branded it the 'absolute standout programme – brave, witty and funny'.

Finally, Michaela Coel added to her tally of awards for her breakout E4 hit Chewing Gum,  with one judge declaring it 'beautifully written and hilarious; and another saying: 'This was very witty, unique and just perfect for the audience.'

• Jones will be performing at Chortle's Fast Fringe at Leicester Square Theatre next Wednesday. Tickets and full line-up here.
