Thanks to the Gold channel

Limmy’s Show is to be broadcast nationwide for the first time.

The Gold channel has bought the rights to the first series of the cult sketch show, which aired on BBC Scotland in 2010, for a late-night broadcast.

Two more series were subsequently commissioned by the BBC, but despite its cult success north of the border, the broadcaster did not network it across England, Wales and Northern Ireland – except for a ‘best of’ compilation that was screened on BBC Three in 2013.

The show helped Limmy – aka Brian Limmond – attractea raft of celebrity fans including Matt Lucas, Peter Serafinowicz and Charlie Brooker, who gave him a slot on Weekly Wipe.

And in 2013, The Guardian ran an article entitled: ‘It's the funniest British sketch comedy in years. So why doesn't the BBC give it a slot in its UK-wide schedules?’

Now UKTV’s Gold channel will be taking up that gauntlet, screening the show in its '... After Dark’ strand, starting on the night of June 10.

At 12.35am – ie just into Saturday morning – the broadcaster will air the opening episode  featuring hard-bitten ex-junkie Jacqueline McCafferty, adventure game host Falconhoof, delinquent businessman   Mr Mulvaney, and Limmy as himself.

The show was originally commissioned on the strength of Limmy’s online output.
