Frankie Boyle jumps to Netflix
Frankie Boyle is to become the second British comic to release a stand-up special exclusively on Netflix.
He follows Jimmy Carr, whose Funny Business tour will premiere on the streaming service on March 18.
The Scot recorded his current show, Hurt Like You’ve Never Been Loved, at Glasgow’s Citizens Theatre in September.
Boyle and Carr are both represented by Chambers Management, inviting speculation that other big names on their books, such as Sarah Millican and Jack Whitehall, might also eschew DVD releases for an online deal.
Boyle has previously streamed specials for the BBC’s iPlayer on the Scottish Referendum and the General Election featuring Sara Pascoe and Katherine Ryan.
But he poked fun at the corporation during the Glasgow recording, citing jokes that were supposedly cut from his 2014 Live at the Apollo appearance.
Boyle’s three previous specials, originally recorded for DVD, are already available on Netflix.
But the American entertainment service was once embarrassed when it advertised Frankie Boyle Live as ‘the sharp-tongued English comic is at his razor sharp best’.
Boyle tweeted in response: ‘Thanks to all who enjoyed my Scottish character, time to move on.’
Netflix’s next batch of stand-up exclusives include Hannibal Buress’s Comedy Camisado, out next Friday, and Patton Oswarlt’s Talking For Clapping, out on April 22.
