Christopher Guest signs up Kerry Godliman
Kerry Goldiman has landed a role in the new Christopher Guest film, set in the world of sports mascots.
The stand-up believes she got the part – without auditioning – because of her work on Ricky Gervais's Derek.
'Christopher Guest is a good friend of Ricky – they have a mutual appreciation society and Christopher saw me in Derek, no doubt,' she said in an interview with the Portsmouth News. 'It was a dream come true for someone to call up and say Christopher Guest would like you to be in his next movie.'
She has just shot the improvised film, called Mascots, in Los Angeles, and said: 'I loved it, I had a great time. I was a bit apprehensive because it's such a bolt from the blue, but to be asked to work with such a comedy hero, it was extraordinary.
'To have Christopher Guest and Ricky Gervais on your CV – I think I might retire now.'
Set in the fictional Fluffy Games competitions between sports mascots, the film is being made for Netflix and also stars Jennifer Coolidge, Jane Lynch, Harry Shearer and Fred Willard,
Meanwhile, Godliman also revealed that she has been commissioned to write a sitcom script for the BBC.
'We're on the second draft at the moment,' she said. 'It's an extension of my stage persona. If we can get it right, it will be a version of what I do in my stand-up, fleshed out into a sitcom. It's trying to nail the spirit of that.'
