For a Sport Relief special

Jason Manford is to take part in the Great British Bake Off.

He will appear in the special Sport Relief version of the hit show – which will also feature both Samantha Cameron and Ed Balls.

Cameron is the second Prime Minister's wife to take part in the competition after Gordon Brown's partner Sarah competed in a Comic Relief special earlier this year – but facing the former Labour shadow chancellor will give the show a political edge.

Other celebrities taking part in next year's charity shows include Adrian Edmondson, impressionist Morgana Robinson and Only Connect presenter Victoria Coren-Mitchell.

Missing from the usual team is presenter Sue Perkins, who has other filming commitments. Instead, one episode will be introduced by regular co-host Mel Giedroyc with Sarah Millican, Ed Byrne and Jennifer Saunders – Edmondson's wife – hosting others.

Sport Relief will return between Friday 18 and Sunday 20 March.
