British comedies Rose to the top
British comedies have cleaned up at the prestigious Rose d'Or international broadcasting awards.
Sky Arts show Psychobitches was named best comedy and Channel 4's Catastrophe, created by Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney, took home best sitcom at last night's ceremony at the the British Museum.
And in the radio categories – introduced for only the second time in the event's 54-year-history – Radio 4 Extra's Newsjack was named best comedy. The topical show, fronted by Nish Kumar, generates its script entirely from open submissions from would-be writers.
The best radio talk show gong went to Robin Ince and Professor Brian Cox's Infinite Monkey Cage. Ince tweeted: 'Monkey Cage occupants really happy to win (all ready for punch up w/ Woman's Hour).'
It a strong night for Britain, The Graham Norton Show also took the TV entertainment category and The 3rd Degree, the student quiz show hosted by Steve Punt from various British universities, took the radio game show award.
Wild Things, the Sky 1 show presented by Kate Humble and Jason Byrne in which teams dressed as woodland creatures tackle an obstacle course.
The Eurovision and Euroradio event, operated by the European Broadcasting Union, also honoured Stephen Fry with a lifetime achievement award.
Collecting his accolade, the outgoing QI host said: 'The real truth about broadcasting is that it's about making the best programmes and those are to do with individuals, characters and emotions.'
He added: 'It's not technology that tells stories, it's human beings.'
