Patsy and Edina hit screens in 2016

The release date has been set for Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie.

Fox Searchlight Pictures has announced that Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley will be on the big screen from July 1 in Britain and Ireland.

The cast recently wrapped a seven-week shoot on location in the UK and the South of France.

The plot of the movie, written by Saunders, is that Edina and Patsy are blamed for a major incident at an uber-fashionable launch party, and become entangled in a media storm, relentlessly pursued by the paparazzi. Fleeing penniless to the glamorous playground of the French Riviera, they hatch a plan to make their escape permanent and live the high life forevermore.

Also returning are Julia Sawalha as Saffy, Jane Horrocks as Bubble and June Whitfield as Mother.

It is being directed by Mandie Fletcher, who worked on the Ab Fab TV series as well as Blackadder. Producers are Jon Plowman and Damian Jones
