Walliams and Wright unite

For animated movie about shadows

David Walliams is writing an animated film with Shaun of the Dead director Edgar Wright.

The movie, for Dreamworks, is about shadows, according to the Hollywood trade press, although other details are scant. Dreamworks was previously developing a comedy animation called Me And My Shadow, but that has been shelved in favour of the new project.

Wright, who also collaborated with Simon Pegg on Spaced, Hot Fuzz and The World's End, will direct.

Walliams last night tweeted that he as 'thrilled to be working with my genius friend' on the film.

And Wright said: 'When the Shadows concept was suggested to me, I could see the poster, the title sequence and pretty much the whole movie. It's a blast writing this and to have one of my oldest friends in comedy, David Walliams, along for the adventure is a thrill.'

In a statement, Dreamworks added: 'Edgar will spearhead a new approach to this fascinating concept and we're ecstatic to have him on board as director along with David as co-writer.

'We've always been intrigued by a film concept involving shadows, and now with Edgar's signature comedic style and abilities as a natural storyteller, audiences will be treated to a truly captivating and energetic tale.'

Wright's other forthcoming projects also include directing Johnny Depp in an adaptation of Neil Gaiman's children's fantasy Fortunately, The Milk, which is being written by Flight Of The Conchords' Bret McKenzie. That movie will mix live action and animation.
