Jon Stewart signs new HBO deal
Former Daily Show host Jon Stewart has signed a deal to make online topical clips for HBO.
The four-year contract also includes a first-look option for his other film and TV ventures.
But the first project is for short-form content based on current events, which will be distributed via HBO’s on-demand services and updated several times a day.
They will be produced in conjunction with OTOY, a company that specialises in 3D rendering technology, suggesting the finished perfect revolve around some sort of virtual presenter.
‘Jon Stewart led a revolution that changed the face of TV comedy on the Daily Show,’ said HBO programming president Michael Lombardo. ‘He graced our network nearly 20 years ago, so we’re thrilled to welcome back his immense talents in this next chapter of his career.’
Stewart added: ‘Appearing on television 22 minutes a night clearly broke me. I’m pretty sure I can produce a few minutes of content every now and again.’
Last week it was also announced that one of the comedian’s other ventures after leaving the Daily Show would be to open an animal sanctuary, after his wife Tracey bought a farm in New Jersey.
