Alice Lowe to play a pregnant serial killer
Alice Lowe is to star as a heavily pregnant serial killer in her first film as director.
The Sightseers co-writer and star will start filming in Cardiff this week, and describes the movie, provisionally titled Prevenge, as a 'post-feminist revenge movie'.
Lowe, who got her break on Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, told ScreenDaily: 'It's going to be quite bloody and it's probably slightly more serious than Sightseers. It operates in more of a real realm and the humour comes from the reality of the situation.'
She is seven-and-a-half months pregnant in real life, giving added authenticity to the 'very low budget' project, which will involve a lot of improvisation.
And she told the trade newspaper: 'It was based on my real experience of being pregnant. People automatically assume you're a lovely person because you're pregnant… I wanted to write something which defied that image of the pregnant woman as this safe, sweet, kind person.'
Cast have not yet been confirmed, but her former Sightseers co-star Eileen Davies will have a role.
Lowe also said she was working on a bigger-budget project for Film 4, but did not give further details.
She previously directed the 2014 short Solitudo, about a nun working alone at a ruined convent who is stalked by a sinister creature, and currently appears in Aaaaaaaah! (review).
