Jonny Sweet & Simon Bird form TV company
Simon Bird and Jonny Sweet have formed a new TV company with Harry Hill’s TV Burp producer Spencer Millman.
Their new outfit, Guilty Party, is a joint venture with Studiocanal’s RED production company, which recently made Lenny Henry’s Danny And The Human Zoo, and Ordinary Lies, which starred Jason Manford.
‘There is a fantastic opportunity for Studiocanal to become the main house for European talents in TV series, so we are very happy to have Spencer Millman, Simon Bird and Jonny Sweet join our family,’ said the studio’s chief operating officer, Romain Bessi.
‘We really believe that together we can create series that will reach a global audience. This is the beginning of a nice European journey
Millman, who has also produced The Mighty Boosh and The Inbetweeners 2 added: ‘We cannot wait to support and promote the most exciting new and established writers and talent in the industry and make programmes we feel very passionate about.’
Bird and Sweet have been working together since Cambridge University, where they were president and vice-president of the Footlights, alongside Bird’s Inbetweeners co-star Joe Thomas. All three formed the sketch group The House of Windsor, and went on to make the period sitcom Chickens, about conscientious objectors during World War One, for Sky One.
Sweet’s BBC Three show, Together, launched two weeks ago to critical acclaim.
