New feminist comedy for Lena Dunham
Girls creator Lena Dunham is developing a new comedy pilot set based around the 1960s feminist movement.
HBO has ordered a pilot episode of the show, which has reportedly been in development for some time.
Dunham is working with the Girls team of writer Murray Miller and executive producers Jenni Konner Ilene Landress on the new show, Max.
Lisa Joyce, whose credits include Boardwalk Empire, will star as an ‘enthusiastic but misguided’ magazine writer, Maxine Woodruff, who stumbles her way to the forefront of the women’s movement.
As well as the Max pilot, Dunham is working on a fifth season of Girls, due to air on the premium network next year. But she’s previously suggested it should run for no more than six series, saying: ‘I think America has a tendency to push shows past their due dates…I like the British model — in and out.’
