BBC hails Peter Kay
BBC is to celebrate signing up Peter Kay with a documentary about his 20-year comedy career.
The comic this year starred in BBC One's Car Share and BBC Two's Cradle To Grave after a career mostly spent with Channel 4.
Now the BBC is to interview his colleagues and peers 'sharing their insights into just what makes Peter tick'.
The tone of the hour-long show is unlikely to be too critical, with the publicity describing Kay as a 'national treasure' and 'very exceptional British comic talent'.
BBC comedy boss Shane Allen said: 'This has been a remarkable year for Peter and it feels timely to mark his exceptional talents as sitcom writer and performer as well as record-breaking stand-up comedian. It’s a great opportunity to honour someone at the top of their game and enjoy the work that got him there.'
And Kay said: 'What a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the last 20 years and highlight some of the work it’s been my honour to create.'
Kay won Channel 4's So You Think You're Funny? contest in 1997, making his Fringe debut the following year.
The new documentary, Twenty Years Of Funny, is being made by Shiver Productions, who also make Come Dine With Me.
