A real magic moment

Watch conjuror Neil Henry propose on stage at the Fringe

Magician Neil Henry has proposed to his girlfriend – via a trick he performed at the Edinburgh Fringe.

The 37-year-old conjuror and mindreader pulled a surprised Charlie Gardner on to the stage of the Pleasance Dome after swallowing a tin of Alphabetti Spaghetti and a piece of string.

He then pulled the sting out of his mouth, and asked he to read the pasta letters as they emerged, spelling the words: 'Marry Me'.

A shocked Charlie, 23, put her hands up to her face and said: 'You're not are you? Oh shit! Are you kidding me? Oh my God.'

Neil hugged her and said: 'Having you in my life is real magic and I never want that magic to end.'

He then got down on one knee, produced a diamond ring in a box in a puff of smoke, and asked: 'Charlie Gardner, will you marry me?'

She replied: "Of course I will' and the couple embraced again, as the audience cheered.

The couple met at the Edinburgh Festival in 2013, when Charlie was costume designer on the play The Curse of Elizabeth Faulkner, which Neil appeared in.
