Eddie Izzard sings Marlene Dietrich

...in surprise appearance at Glasgow pub

Eddie Izzard made a surprise performance at a Glasgow pub last night.

The comic took to the stage of the Nice 'N' Sleazy acoustic open mic night – to sing Marlene Dietrich's song Lili Marlene in German. Izzard has been learning the language after conquering French for his stand-up set.

The song, which was popular during the Second World War, formed past of a set which also included stand-up and storytelling.

Gerry Lyons, host of the event, told the Glasgow Evening News: 'I wasn't sure what to expect as I've only seen him from wee bits of television and movies so I wasn't sure if he was musical but he was great.'

Actor Iain Robertson, who was in the audience, tweeted: 'Either I slipped into a parallel universe or the indefatigable @eddieizzard just sang at #NiceNSleazy in #Glasgow.'

Izzard is in Scotland filming a remake of Whisky Galore.
