Simon Brodkin charged over Fifa stunt
Simon Brodkin has been charged with trespassing after pranking Fifa president Sepp Blatter.
The comic attracted headlines worldwide after showering the football boss with fake banknotes at a press conference in Zurich on Monday.
But now Swiss police have charged him over the incident – though they say it is not certain whether he will face court action.
In a statement they said: 'He will be charged for trespassing because he wasn't allowed to enter the building.
'If there will be a trial it is still to be decided by the prosecutor. Trespassing in Switzerland is just prosecuted by request like other minor crimes.'
Brodkin, who usually performs as Lee Nelson but pulled off the stunt in the guise of his footballer alter-ego Jason Bent, is not the only person to have been arrested in Zurich connected with Fifa.
In May, 14 senior football figures were indicted by the FBI over corruption allegations. Blatter's press conference on Monday was to reveal that his replacement would be chosen on February 26, 2016.
After Brodkin's stunt, Blatter left the room claiming they had to 'clean up' the notes. He returned to the stage 10 minutes later saying: 'I am sorry what happened. I've just called my late mother who said it's just a matter of no education.'
Brodkin was not held by Swiss authorities.
His stunt came only weeks after he gatecrashed Kanye West's headlining set at Glastonbury.
Last year he attempted to join the England World Cup squad as they flew from Luton Airport, and he was previously arrested at a Premier League game after invading the pitch and warming up with Manchester City.
