David Baddiel takes the Silk Road
David Baddiel has travelled the 2,000-year-old trade route called The Silk Road for a new TV series.
He crossed China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey in the four-part travelogue for the Discovery Channel.
Highlights include the abandoned Chines mud city of Jiaohe, Uzbekistan's holy city of Bukhara and the story of Christian monks who smuggled silk worms out of China in hollow walking sticks.
Kirstie McLure of producers Pioneer told trade website Broadcastnow: 'Filming along the route with David was incredibly challenging at times, but through the access we gained, we discovered a world of untold mysteries and stories.'
David Baddiel On The Silk Road will air later this year.
