Tom Deacon's wake-up call
Stand-up Tom Deacon is to be the new breakfast show DJ on Capital Radio on the South Coast.
The comic will take over the slot from next Monday, co-presenting with Emma Jo Real-Davies.
Deacon has previously hosted his own Radio 1 show following the Sunday-night chart rundown, and has more recently been heard on subscription radio station Fubar.
He came to prominence on the stand-up circuit after winning the Chortle Student Comedy Award in 2007, and has notched up TV appearances on The Rob Brydon Show and Dave’s One Night Stand.
Deacon, a die-hard fan of Southampton FC, tweeted this morning: ‘It just makes sense to go back to the South Coast as Saints FC are back in Europe.’
He and Real-Davies – who joins the station from Kent-based KMFM – are taking over the 6am weekday slot from Paul Gillies and Emily Segal.
The pair suddenly left the station last month, last appearing on June 12 but making mention of the fact it was their last show. Gillies has been hosting the show since 2007, when the Hampshire-based station was known as Power FM.The station has made a short video to promote Deacon’s new show:
