Monday June 22
LIVE IN LONDON: The British Summertime event in Hyde Park is playing host to the likes of Blur, The Who and Kylie… but for the next three days comedians have the run of the place. Rich Hall headlines tonight; Jim Jefferies in a rare UK gig on Tuesday and Ed Byrne on Wednesday. There’s a good supporting line-up each day too, featuring the likes of Glenn Wool, Andrew Maxwell and Shappi Khorsandi. LIVE IN LONDON: Jake Johannsen is probably not a name that means much to most Brits… but he’s certainly known to the bookers of The Late Show with David Letterman, having an astounding 46 appearances on the show in his 30-year comedy career. Described as having ‘a subtle and intelligent comedic style’, he’s at the Soho Theatre all week.
Wednesday June 24
LIVE IN NORWICH: Adam Buxton’s entertaining show Bug showcases the best filmmaking used in music videos as well as the ridiculous comments they attract online. It’s at the Norwich Playhouse for a two-night run.
Thursday June 25
RADIO: The Party Party is the latest archive oddity unearthed by the Radio 4 Extra programmers. First aired in 1987 but set in the futuristic world of, erm, 1992, it was the sitcommy world of Microcosm and charts how a ‘loony right’ party affects its actor inhabitants. Rory Bremner, Morwenna Banks and Hugh Laurie star. 11pm LIVE IN MANCHESTER: Another strong bill at the Comedy Store this weekend features mischievous Carey Marx, the super dry John Moloney and playful Pierre Hollins
Friday June 26
LIVE IN CARDIFF: Fine, laid-back comic Tom Stade heads the bill at the Glee this weekend, with sterling support from Ed Gamble, James Dowdeswell and Javier Jarquin.
Saturday June 27
LIVE IN LEEDS: Ray Peacock’s Here Comes Trouble tour continues, with such tales of infantile mischief you’d think it was illness. And well it might be. He visits the Carriageworks tonight, and here is our review from Edinburgh.
RADIO: Comic Bennett Arron discusses his Welsh-Jewish heritage in a two-part series for BBC Radio Wales based on his stand-up show. Jewelsh starts at 1.05pm today, right after Rhod Gilbert’s regular Saturday morning show on the station. It’ll also be available on iPlayer.
