Comics to voice Disney cartoon
Marc Wootton and Kayvan Novak are to voice a new animated comedy series for satellite channel Disney XD.
Wootton, whose best-known comedy creation is psychic Shirley Ghostman, will voice the title character, Counterfeit Cat. And Fonejacker creator Novak will play Betty, the owner of the house where he lives.
The other main character is Gark, an alien with superpowers sent to Earth for training before saving the universe. Gark mistakes Max for a tiger who can teach him to be a hero – although the cat is more interested in watching TV and coughing up furballs. Gark has yet to be cast.
A total of 26 half-hour episodes, 52 eleven-minute ones, and 11 two-minute shorts have been commissioned from UK studio Wildseed and Canada’s Tricon Kids & Family. Counterfeit Catwill launch on Disney XD in the UK and Europe in spring next year.
Production will soon start at Wildseed’s Bristol base and the cartoons – aimed at 6-12 year-olds – will also air on Teletoon Canada.
Jesse Cleverly, creative head of the UK company: ‘This entertaining and comical new animation will capture hearts, minds and funny bones of all ages around the globe. Counterfeit Cat draws on some fantastic production talent around the world.’
It is the first TV commission for Wildseed, which has been launching comedies online since its launch in 2013.
