Aliens to take over E4
E4 has commissioned a new comedy about a community of aliens living on earth.
Filming starts on the series, called Aliens, later this year, and it will air in 2016.
Six hour-long episodes have been commissioned from Irish writer Fintan Ryan who previously created BBC Two’s Never Better, which starred Stephen Mangan as recovering alcoholic, and producers Clerkenwell Films.
The premise is that aliens, who conveniently for special effects budgets, look like humans, have been living in a segregated, crime—ridden ghetto called Troy fro the past 40 years.
Its central character is the human Lewis, a border control guard, who discovers he is half-alien. Casting has not yet been announced.
Channel 4 commissioner Roberto Troni called Aliens ‘scabrously funny, shockingly violent and at times positively hallucinogenic’, adding: ‘It’s a culture clash, a gangster epic, but fundamentally it is an all too human search for acceptance and identity.’
