Tommy Cooper impersonator sets new record

A Tommy Cooper impersonator has scooped the Guinness World Record for the most jokes told in a minute.

Clive Greenaway cracked 26 one-liners in 60 seconds to claim the title from Germany’s Markus Weise, who previously held the record with 21.

Official rules stated that the live audience had to laugh to each gag for them to count.

Greenway set the record at the end of one of his shows at the Haverhill Arts Centre in Suffolk, last August – but it has taken Guinness officials this long to verify the record and send him his certificate.

He told his local newspaper in Poole, Dorset, the Daily Echo: ‘They didn’t have to be original jokes so I chose some classic English, old-school jokes the likes of Tommy Cooper and Les Dawson used to tell.’

He had learned a set with 28 gags in a minute, but that eluded him on the night.
