Comic punches compere in the face
A comedy audience were stunned after an open mic comic punched the compere in the face.
The act, Brian Irons, attacked MC Joe Deez in a row over the Ohio club’s no-swearing policy.
Irons lashed out after he was reprimanded for defying the ban. He conducted a vote among the audience to see if they would like to hear him to swear, then after getting a cheer told Deez he was ‘like the fucking police’ for enforcing the ban.
Deez, pictured, then approached the stage with the mic stand to bring Irons’s set to a close. The open-miccer then aggressively threw the microphone down and punched Deez in the face, knocking him to the ground.
Yet he remained professional, and getting to his feet asked the audience to ‘put their hands together’ for the act they’d just seen attack him.
Deez told the Right This Minute web show: ‘I was only down for a few seconds, and while I was down, my only thought was “How am I going to salvage this show?”’
He added that he was filing common assault charges against Irons.
In an online posting, Irons accused Deez of ‘setting me up’, saying: ‘Every week, damn near every comic curses like crazy at that place but the few times I’ve slipped up, they interrupted my entire set to chastise me.
‘I’m not a monster… I’m just a guy who made a poor decision in the heat of the moment.’
The attack comes just weeks after the host of Another American amateur comedy night was assaulted with a baseball bat. Dylan Avila suffered double skull fractures when he was beaten up by an open-spot he had banned from the stage of his club in Washington state.
