John Oliver returns to the Daily Show
Watch the footage
John Oliver returned to the host’s chair on the Daily Show last night – to help Jon Stewart plug his new movie.
The regular host said it felt weird to promote his drama, Rosewater, on his own show, so summoned Oliver by Stewart rubbing a magic teapot with the Queen’s face on.
Stewart asked if Oliver could take over, and received the reply: ‘I think we've already seen that I can do that…’
It was Oliver’s stint on the Comedy Central show last summer – while Stewart was off shooting the film – that led to him fronting his own satirical progamme, Last Week Tonight, on HBO.
Oliver joked last night: ‘I’ll take another spin in the non-premium host chair for old time’s sake.’
The film, written and directed by Stewart, is a dramatisation of journalist Maziar Bahari’s torture and incarceration in Iran and is released in the US today.
But as Oliver reminded viewers, Dumb and Dumber To is also out in American cinemas today:
Here’s the footage from last night:
No UK release date for Rosewater has yet been set.
