He is the rapper who hacked off his own penis with a steak knife… and now he has started on a new career: stand-up comedy.

Andre Johnson - who performs under the stage name Christ Bearer - hit the headlines earlier his year when he sliced off his own genitalia before leaping from a first-floor window.

In the stand-up routine, posted on TMZ.com, the 40-year-old describes how he heard voices in his head that drove him to do it.

At the time it was reported that he had been taking PCP at the party, though Johnson - part of the Wu Tang Clan affiliated hip hop duo Northstar - later insisted he was lucid. ‘I was in complete control,’ he told E! News. ‘I cut it off because that was the root of all my problems. My solution to the problem was the realisation that sex is for mortals, and I am a god…’

Johnson has performed stand-up twice, with gigs this month at the Laugh Factory and the Ha Ha Cafe Comedy Club in Hollywood.

After the second gig he posted on his Facebook page: ‘Just killed um … with TMZ in the house! Feeling blessed.’
