Comics share their stories on new radio shows

Comedians are to talk about difficult matters of family and romantic relationships in two new radio shows.

BBC Radio Scotland has commissioned two episodes each of Funny Kind Of Family and Funny Kind Of Love.

The commission follows Funny Kind Of Funny, in which comics spoke about mental health issues, which aired on Radio Scotland earlier this year. As before, the new series will be hosted by Julia Sutherland.

Richard Melvin, from producers Dabster, said: ‘Great stand up comedy can really help people to come to terms with difficult situations and difficult feelings, these two series will look at some of the more taboo areas family life and relationships.’

Guests will include Thom Tuck talking about how his real dad found him; Deborah Frances White on her first week with a new family; Rosie Wilby on monogamy and Raymond Mearns and JoJo Sutherland on the realities of long-term relationships.

Funny Kind Of Love will air at the end of November and the first week of December, with Funny Kind Of Family going out in January.

Parts of the shows are being recorded in front of an audience at The Stand in Edinburgh on September 17 and October 7. See our free tickets page for details.

Last week we revealed how Dabster were also making a new Radio 4 series with Terry Alderton.
