Comedian to star in Assassins musical

Catherine Tate is appear in a London stage musical, playing woman who attempted to assassinate US president Gerald Ford in 1975.

The Big School star will appear alongside Mike McShane, the comic best known for Whose Line Is It Anyway for the revival of Stephen Sondheim's musical Assassins.

First performed off-Broadway in 1990, the show is a revue-style portrayal of the 13 men and women who attempted to assassinate Presidents of the United States.

Tate plays Sara Jane Moore, who fired a shot at Ford outside a San Francisco hotel before a retired Marine pounced on her. McShane will play Samuel Byck, who tried to hijack a plane in 1974 and fly it into the White House.

The Menier Chocolate Factory revival, which opens on November 21, also stars Andy Nyman as Charles Guiteau, the man who killed President James Garfield.

Tate will be in the show until February 8, when another actor will take over foe the last month of the show's run.
