Jim Davidson wins Celebrity Big Brother
Jim Davidson has won this year’s Celebrity Big Brother.
The 60-year-old triumphed over rapper Dappy in the final of the Channel 5 reality show.
He said it was ‘overwhelming’ to come out of the house to a cheering crowd, and joked that he was surprised to win as ‘I’ve been nominated more times than Gone With The Wind.;
The comic said: ‘I never thought I’d get here [to win] in a million years.’
Davidson was the bookie’s favourite going into the show, with Paddy Power giving odds of 1/5 compared to Dappy’s 3/1. The pair became pals over their time in the house and said: 'I love Dappy. I wish he was my son. And I hate rap.’ Equally Dappy said the comic was a father figure, since his own father had died. 'I'll call him Dad for the rest of my life,' he said tonight.
Critics said his time in the show demonstrated there was more to him than the sexist dinosaur that is his public image,
Although he walked away from several arguments, he did clash with Linda Nolan on several occasions – including winding her up about an unmentioned incident in Frank Carson's dressing room. But Davidson said outside of the house ‘I can’t wait for her to buy me a pint of Guinness… I might have a long wait.’
Davidson had been due to take part in last year’s show but became embroiled in the Operation Yewtree investigation into historic sex abuse claims – but no charges were ever made. He said he was ‘slightly damaged’ over the allegations but knew that ‘truth would conquer all’.
On tonight’s final show Casey Batchelor was the first to be eviceted, getting the lowest votes from the public. She was followed by a trio of other reality show characters: The Only Way Is Essex’s Sam Faiers, The Apprentice’s Luisa Zissman and Made In Chelsea’s Ollie Lock
