RICKY GERVAIS has begun production on the second series of Derek, which will air on Channel 4 and Netflix US next year. The returning cast includes Kerry Godliman and Karl Pilkington, and Gervais said: 'Derek is probably my favourite thing of everything I've done, so I can't wait to start thinking up some new adventures for the gang.'

CATHERINE TATE's foul-mouthed Nan character is to make an appearance in Holby City, for a sketch to be aired as part of the BBC's Children In Need night on November 15. Mathew Horne will also return as her grandson.

COMEDIAN Spencer Brown has won an international award for his short film, The Boy With A Camera For A Face. It scooped the Melies d'Argent for best short film at Razor Reel festival for fantasy films in Bruges on Saturday night. The film began life as a beat poem in Brown's Fringe stand-up show. DELETED scenes from the Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa film are to be revealed, after publisher HarperCollins signed a deal to publish the script on November 21. The book promises axed scenes written by Steve Coogan, Armando Iannucci, Peter Baynham, and Rob and Neil Gibbons. The script will be on sale a few days before the DVD. HarperCollins also published the spoof autobiography, I, Partridge.

POLICEMAN turned comedian Alfie Moore is piloting a new show for Radio 4. It's A Fair Cop will invite the audience to explain what they would do if they were constables in real-life scenarios. The pilot will be taped at the BBC Radio Theatre in Broadcasting House, Central London, on Wednesday. See our Free tickets page to be in the audience.
