Comics up for Writers' Guild Awards

Nominations out now

Jo Brand, Susan Calman and Alice Lowe and Steve Oram are among the nominees for this year's Writers' Guild Awards.

Brand has been shortlisted in the TV comedy category with her Getting On co-creators Vicki Pepperdine and Joanna Scanlan. They are up against Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain for Fresh Meat and Stefan Golaszewski for Him and Her.

Calman is shortlisted in the radio comedy award, for her show Susan Calman is Convicted. She wrote on Facebook: 'It's wonderful because Radio 4 let me make something I wanted to and then people liked it.'

Also nominated in that category are Sanjeev Kohli and Donald McLeary for the Glasgow corner shop sitcom Fags, Mags & Bags and American author David Sedaris Meet David Sedaris.

Lowe and Oram are up for the accolade for best first screenplay, for their script for the dark comedy Sightseers. They face competition from the writers of Good Vibrations, Grabbers and What Richard Did.

The Writers' Guild Awards will be presented in London on Wednesday November 13.
