Comics amuse the Moose

American stand-up Al Lubel and Devon comedian Danny Ward have been named joint winners of the Amused Moose Laughter Award at the Edinburgh Fringe.

The pair share a £5,000 for the development of their comedy careers, and each receives a commercial standard DVD recording.

More than 100 comics without existing DVD deals entered the competition, which is sponsored by 2entertain/BBC Worldwide.

Lubel, pictured,who is performing Mentally Al at Just The Tonic @ The Caves, said: ‘I’m happy, thank you. I’m pleased the moose was amused. My low self-esteem is going to have a bit of problem with this.’

Ward, who is making his solo Edinburgh debut with Pressure Point at the Laughing Horse Free Festival won the People’s Champion vote, He said: ‘I didn’t know there was a People’s Champion so this is a fantastic surprise.’

John Luke-Roberts was named runner-up.

Previous winners of the title were Marcel Lucont in 2012 and Tony Law in 2011.
